Data Management Department
Data Management Department is responsible for development, maintenance and operational of data management infrastructure that includes.
Designing and Developing research Databases:
As much as operating “locally/in house” developed database systems using Microsoft Access, MMRC Data Management Department is also conversant with EDC (online) systems as these are also used in capturing data for the clinical and vaccine trials studies it includes system such as OpenClinica, ClinPlus,Idatafax and Medidata Rave.
Data Quality:
Data management department plays an important role in high quality research through providing accuracy, completeness, timeliness data. To improve accuracy of the data sets, the DMU employs double data entry system, further logical checks are carried out using mainly STATA software and inbuilt query generators within the database systems, also maintain audit trial data edit.
Data Security:
MMRC Data management department ensure security and privacy of all Participant data, Through Planning, implementation and control activities to Store, protect and access data found within electronic files and physical records. And to safeguard at all levels against damage and loss.
Also DMU ensures that the following activities are carried out effectively and efficiently; data storage, retrieval, secure modification, database integrity and maintenance. At the same time the DMU is involved in offering training to the PI’s and other interested staff members in the basic principals of database and statistical systems.
Team Members
Currently, Data Management Department has 19 members of which, 1 Bsc in Statistics, 3 Bsc in Computer Science, 1 Diploma in computer and 14 data entry personnel.
The DMU is structured within the program’s information and communication Technology Department with the main aim of providing support of data management and analysis aspects to programs research activities.
To achieve the department’s main objective, the DMU ensures that the following activities are carried out effectively and efficiently; data storage, retrieval, secure modification, databases integrity and maintenance.
The DMU work in close collaboration with the IT department in designing and developing Programs research databases.
